Hamish Legarth and Nicole Shields cycle to support rural bicycle access
New Zealand Olympians Hamish Legarth (Paris 2024, Sprint Kayaking) and Nicole Shields (Paris 2024 – Silver, Track Cycling) made a stop at Tatu City during their 4,500km cycling tour across East Africa to raise funds for World Bicycle Relief, a global nonprofit improving access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods through bicycles.
Hamish and Nicole were joined by Nova Pioneer School and Tatu City staff for a community ride through the city’s nature trails and cyclist-friendly infrastructure. Their stop in Tatu City follows earlier visits to Kisumu, where they toured World Bicycle Relief’s distribution hub, and Iten, a training hub for Kenya’s elite runners. The tour continues across the region, promoting mobility equity through the power of the bicycle.
“Tatu City is designed for people, not just buildings,” said Linda Nyaseda, Head of City Management at Tatu City. “Our pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly infrastructure ensures safety and harmony between vehicles and non-motorized users. We are proud to host Hamish and Nicole, whose mission reflects our vision of healthy, connected communities.”

“The more bicycles we can deliver, the more lives we can impact,” said Hamish.
“We’re not just cycling for adventure—we’re cycling for access, for equity,” added Nicole. “A bicycle in the hands of a student or healthcare worker can be life-changing.”
In support of Kenya’s growing cycling culture, Limitless Outdoors, a premier outfitter shop, recently opened at Tatu City, offering mountain bike rentals, curated trails for all skill levels, expert bike servicing, a retail hub for gear and accessories, and school cycling programs designed to nurture future adventurers.
“Our goal is to turn a simple ride into a memorable outdoor experience,” said Bobby Reriani, Founder of Limitless Outdoors. “Tatu City provides the perfect backdrop—safe, scenic, and built for modern living.”
